Perched at the edge of Ngunguru village, the dwelling overlooks the estuary as it opens toward Whangaumu Bay. From above, the plan unfolds as three wings extending from a central spine, their edges softened with curves.
The main facade runs perpendicular to the estuary, the wings folding back to shelter against the prevailing wind.
Dark cladding absorbs the surrounding canopy, the form at ease within the bush. Existing slab levels and a retaining wall running through the heart of the original house set the terms of the design.
